Choose a new Dell Latitude when the laptop will be your main everyday work tool and you want the 36-month manufacturer’s warranty. A refurbished (used) Latitude suits you when the 12-month laptops.lt warranty is enough and you are happy with the described condition. Below we compare both options and show what to check before you order.
When to choose new and when refurbished
Most laptops at laptops.lt are new Dell laptops, including the Latitude series. There are only a few refurbished (used) laptops and the list changes, so a specific model may not be available. You can browse all Dell models in the Dell category.
Choose a new model if you want the longest warranty and do not want to judge cosmetic condition. Choose a refurbished one if it matters that the laptop has been checked and clearly described, and a shorter warranty does not worry you.
- New suits you when you need the 36-month manufacturer’s warranty and servicing at the manufacturer’s service centres in Lithuania.
- New suits you when you do not want to assess either cosmetic marks or battery wear.
- Refurbished suits you when a 12-month warranty is enough and you want to see a detailed condition description up front.
- Refurbished suits a second or backup laptop, or one for studying.
In both cases the buyer receives a VAT invoice for every order. Prices are shown in euros including VAT.
Warranty and servicing
New Latitude
A new Dell comes with a 36-month manufacturer’s warranty, and 12 months for the battery. Warranty servicing is carried out by the manufacturer’s service centres in Lithuania.
Refurbished Latitude
For a refurbished laptop, laptops.lt provides a 12-month warranty, and 6 months for the battery. A battery wears out with use, so its warranty period is shorter in both cases.
In neither case does the warranty cover mechanical damage, liquid damage or software problems. You can find the full terms on the Warranty and returns page.
What condition Grades A, B and C mean
A new laptop is labelled “New”. Each refurbished laptop is given one of three grades, shown in the product specifications and on the label on the product card.
- Grade A: like new, battery 80% or higher.
- Grade B: minor cosmetic scratches, screen without defects, battery 70% or higher.
- Grade C: clear signs of use, described and photographed on the product page; the laptop is technically sound.
What is checked before sale
Every refurbished laptop is checked and cleaned, and the operating system is freshly installed. The battery and screen are tested, and the condition is clearly described. So before you buy, you know what kind of laptop you will receive.
The battery percentage shows the battery’s condition compared with a new one. The lower it is, the more often you will need to plug the laptop in. That is why Grade A is worth choosing if you often work away from a socket, while Grade B suits mostly desk-based work.
Which option suits whom
For business
If the laptop will work every day and downtime is costly, a new model with a 36-month warranty is the safer choice. A refurbished Latitude suits an extra workstation or an employee who does not need the latest configuration. For more on choosing a laptop for a company, see our guide How to choose a business laptop.
For students
A refurbished laptop is often enough for studying. If minor scratches do not bother you, Grade B will do, and its screen has no defects. Pay more attention to the battery: in Grade B it is 70% or higher. For more on an ageing battery, see our guide to battery replacement.
For a backup laptop
For a laptop you only need now and then, or for travel, Grade C works too. The marks of use are described and photographed on the product page, and the laptop is technically sound. It is a sensible option when appearance does not matter.
If you cannot decide between two specific laptops, compare their condition grade, specifications and warranty period.
Is a refurbished laptop a risky purchase?
Buyers want to know whether a refurbished laptop will fail soon. The risk is lower when the laptop is checked before sale and its condition is described openly. Here is what protects you:
- The battery and screen are tested before sale, and the operating system is freshly installed.
- The condition is stated in the specifications, and Grade C laptops are photographed on the product page.
- A 12-month laptops.lt warranty applies, and 6 months for the battery.
- After receiving the laptop, you can return it within 14 days without giving a reason.
The warranty does not cover mechanical damage, liquid damage or software problems, so a refurbished laptop needs the same care as a new one.
What to check on the product page before you order
- The condition grade and its description. For Grade C laptops, look through all the photos.
- The specifications: processor, memory (RAM) and drive. An SSD is faster than an HDD, and with more RAM it is easier to work with many programs open.
- The keyboard layout. It is stated on every product: LT, US, DE, ND and so on.
- The accessories included, and whether you will need an extra charger.
If the keyboard is not Lithuanian, Lithuanian keyboard stickers or a keyboard replacement may be possible. For a specific model, email [email protected] before ordering (more on the contact page).
Spare part compatibility depends on the model, so if you plan to replace a part later, email us before ordering and give the exact model or serial number.
